SMS templates allow you to quickly create short, consistent, and effective text messages for your campaigns. In cirQulate, SMS templates are built using a simple drag-and-drop editor designed for fast communication and high engagement. This article explains how to create, customize, and save SMS templates for use in your campaigns.

What Is an SMS Template?

An SMS template is a reusable text message layout that can include text, links, and images. Templates help ensure consistent messaging, save time, and reduce errors when sending SMS campaigns.

SMS templates are commonly used for:

  • Reminders and alerts

  • Promotions and offers

  • Event notifications

  • Quick updates and announcements

  2. Open cirQulate from the left navigation menu.

  1. Click Templates from the left navigation menu

  • Text Block – Add your message content

  • Image Block – Attach an image or media (MMS)

Drag blocks into the editor and arrange them in the order you want them to appear.

Writing Effective SMS Content

When creating SMS templates, clarity and brevity are essential.

Best Practices

  • Keep messages short and direct

  • Use plain, conversational language

  • Place the most important information first

  • Include a clear call to action

  • Avoid unnecessary punctuation or emojis

Example:
“Reminder: Your appointment is tomorrow at 3 PM. Reply YES to confirm.”

Adding Links and Media

Most SMS campaigns performs best with text-only messages unless visuals and clear value.

  • Use links to direct recipients to offers, forms, or websites

  • Ensure links are mobile-friendly

  • Images can be added for promotions or announcements

  • Avoid overusing images to keep messages fast-loading

Previewing and Testing Your SMS Template

Before saving:

  1. Review how the message appears in the preview

  2. Check spacing and readability

  3. Confirm links work correctly

  4. Ensure the message fits within SMS character limits when possible

Testing helps ensure your message displays correctly on mobile devices.

Saving Your SMS Template

Once your template is complete:

  1. Click Save Template

  2. Name the template clearly (e.g., Appointment Reminder, Flash Sale SMS)

  3. Confirm the template type is SMS

The template will now be available when creating SMS campaigns.

SMS Compliance & Best Practices

  • Always send messages to opted-in contacts

  • Use Campaign Types to help ensure contacts only receive messages they've subscribed to.

  • Avoid sending too frequently

  • Keep timing appropriate for your audience

  • Test before sending large campaigns
